Pug Post

Let me start todays with a sincere thanks everyone who left comments on our post yesterday.  It will take time to heal, but your words of support and understanding have warmed our hearts tremendously.  Thank you all!

After such a difficult day Friday, I was lucky to have lots of good things to keep me occupied over this past weekend.  Spent some time at an AKC event, where we got to watch our friend/vet Dr. Hunt win best of breed two days in a row (over 20+ other dogs) with her fabulous Frenchie, Neill.  We also went to play at another "dog fun day", where Brutus got to steal the show himself as part of an agility demonstration put on by our club.  Of course I took lots of photos, so have tons of new posting material!!!

How do you not smile at a face like that??

So today, we salute all our puggy buddies.  Although there are a few other Frenchies who regularly contribute to DWB community - Lily & Benson (Dog Days), Tank (of the Plus-Sized Pug blog), and Spock - Brutus & I have also found ourselves a part of the pug community.  A quick glance down the sidebar will show you that we are a sort of honorary member of the pug family.  As fellow "B-boys/girls" (short for brachycephalic, or "smoosh" faced), one cannot deny a certain familiarity between the breeds.  You know what they say about birds of a feather - guess it's true for dogs too, at least in the blog world!!

Almost everyone has seen a pug, but many people have never seen, or even heard of, a French Bulldog.  Consequently, I often hear "Oh, what a cute black pug" when someone sees Brutus. I've often joked about getting him a T-shirt that says "NOT a Black Pug."  Don't get me wrong, we are very pro-pug, but there are certain differences once cannot deny if given the opportunity to look at the two breeds side by side.  Ears, tail, overall bulk - we each have our own take on the brachycephalic package.

The best thing pugs have going for them is a very stong presence in the rescue community, since it seems like almost every state has their own organization that stirives to keep homless puggies to a minimum.  Although Brutus has met pugs before, we had a opportunity to meet a few cute pug-girls that were at the fun day as to promote Ohio Pug Rescue Network.  Brutus was quite taken by both of them, so we hung out for a while & I snapped some photos to share!

"Hi there muscle boy - there's something different about you, but I think I like it!!"

How can two dogs be so similar, yet so different??

"Hey hottie, I lost my phone number - can I have yours??"

So although Brutus wants the world to know that HE is NOT a black pug, apparently he is more than happy to hang out with them!!

Stay tuned for more posts from our weekend!

Hmmm, I'm thinkin' the wee Brute likes the kinky tail thingy she has going on! What a sweet face on the other end though, and a cute summer dress, always so fetching. Pink camo too. Really an outdoor girly girl, no wonder he is smitten. Is that 2 puggy girlies? Woah, Brutus, you dah man!

Love the photos. Glad you kept busy with some fun stuff this weekend. I've always thought agility would be neat to try.

Maddie's sister (King Charles spaniel) does very well. I should have started Maddie way back when but I would have to be trained first!

For right now, horse training keeps me plenty busy!

Brutus, you are one very handsome Frenchie. That agilities stuff sounds fun, if it means you get to run around and stuff. I don't like rules though, so it might not be for me. My friend Tweedles is a pug and we have a puggy neighbor named Pugsly. I never thought of you as a pug, you sexy frenchie. Tank(unless there is another Tank) is a Llasa I think, but maybe you know another Tank doggy. I love the pictures of you.

p.s. Oops sorry we just found the Puggy Tank on your followers, what a cutie. I forgot to tell you also, that Twix, is not feeling well. The Power of the Paw is amazing, so if you can please go and help Twix feel better with lots of loving.

OH, BLAST! I had a nice long comment ready to go and my computer kicked me offline! GRRRrrr... I HATE it when that happens!

My verification word was just right, too, for this post. It was "Propug"... LOL

Let's see... I mentioned that your new girl friend matches you really well, and that my Mom's sister, D has always wanted a pug, and likes smooshie faces. She has a Shih Tzu named Mia right now... We DON'T get along at all!!!

Personally, we LOVE the ears you Frenchies share with us Corgis! OC

We saw a Frenchie last year on Nantucket and we hope to see another one this year! We'll be on the look-out, Brutus!

Love ya lots,

We knew what kind of doggie you are right away because momma reads those Jonathan Kellerman books and the main character has a little doggie just like you.

There are certainly doggie "crowds." Me being unique, I can hang with just about any of them, but our first pals were all terriers because of momma missing my Grandpa Angus so much.

That's a pretty little pug girly friend that you found there Brutus. You two look wonderful together.

Mom and dad were going to get a frenchie when they first started looking for a dog, but found me (Yoda) first and just fell in love with my cuteness (how can anyone resist moi :)

It is possible in the future that we may have a little frenchie brother/sister.

We're so glad you had a fun show to go to after such a hard Friday!

I think pugs, Frenchies, boxers and BT's all have a common ancestor! A HANDSOME ancestor!

Hi Brutus,

You and your puggy furiends do have a lot in common but there are obvious differences if the hoomans would just pay attention. I get the same thing with, "Oh look at the cute Chihuahua." I wanna ask them how many Chi's do you know with a bobbed tail?!?

We love the pictures! We agree with Mack- us 4 breeds have some GREAT looking ancestors. We have a senile old neighbor that always thinks we are Boxer puppies. I mean, really. Bugg maybe... but a little fawn pug? Psh.

Well HELLO Brutus & mom!

I'm Pearl! Have we met!? I just saw your post on pugs, which I most certainly am. But you should know, my momma LOVES Frenchies! The difference seems obvious to us, but I could see how some people could confuse the breeds.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi! By the way, Momma read the post before this and has not stopped crying. Her first dog was a JRT that looks JUST like Duncan. Molly is 12 now and lives with momma's parents.

We are thinking of you guys right now, and we salute your bravery in making the right decision for Duncan.

xoxo Pearl

We're anxious to see more photos.

We know a little about your identity crisis. People always think we Wheaten Scotties are Westies because 99% of the people in the world think all Scotties are black. They don't realize that AKC recognizes 6 colors of Scotties!!

XOXO

Hi Brutus! I have been doing a lot of reading about puggies on the internets becauses I'd like to adopt a little puggie myself. But I've also come across Frenchies like you who are adorable, too! :) Glad your mom is having a better days. I read her Friday post and was too teary eyed to post. I stills remembers my doggie (who was just a mixed up pup known as heinz 57) and gets teary eyed when I think of her, but also enjoy the wonderful memories. :)

I forget sometimes that other people are not as obsessed with dogs (or animals in general) and might not have heard of a Frenchie, but surely the ears and tail are a dead giveaway?? So confused! :D

Oh, and I think Brute has a girlfriend!!
