There are monsters lurking in the grass

I was sitting out on my deck a few days ago, shortly after sunrise.  The dogs insist on getting up shortly after daybreak, and it's been so hot here lately that's the only good time for them to be outside.  So we were all sitting there peacefully, enjoying the early morning calm & quiet.  Naturally, I had my camera on hand, just in case.

All of the sudden there was this strange sound - ppppffffffffffffttt!

I had forgotten that the sprinklers were set to come on at that time.  To Carmen they were some kind of subterranean monster rising up out of the grass.  Brutus, being the chivalrous older brother he is, went out to investigate the threat.

Following her big brother's lead, Carmen decided to go investigate another sprinkler head.

Getting closer....

Closer....

Closer still....

AAAAaaaahhhhhhh!  It got me!!

 (hides)
Phew!  That was TOO close!

The result: two wet (therefore unhappy) Frenchies.

Oh Brutus, hide me!  That spitting monster tried to get me!

Stick with me, Carmen.  You've got a lot to learn!

Oooh. Our sprinklers are dead (because of a perpetual drought in this area), but I don't think I would be too keen on them. Brutus - what is up with being so protective of the little puppy monster? Don't you know that she's going to steal your parents' affections with those cute looks of hers when your back is turned? Oh. Wait. That's just in my family (and Abby is So Evil that I am guaranteed to have Mom and Dad's love for life...heehee). It actually looks like you two get along disgustingly well. *sigh* Why did I end up with the evil puppy monster sister, while you got a GOOD sister? Hmmm.

PeeEss: You get your Mom up at sunrise? Mine sleeps like a lunk until 7:30....

I actually had no idea you were bringing a puppy home - I guess I missed the subtle hints!

They seem to be getting along really well, and I'm sure Brutus is excited to have someone new to play with!

Awesome! Congrats!

Oh darn! I MISSED the new pupper episode! Oh boy... she is so cute, but little pups bitey your ears and other sensitive parts - ouchie! I know, cause Lil Avalon does it all the time to me. But I think she's looking pretty growd up - more than my lil puppy sissy. Brutus, I know you will be a great teacher and already are a great brofer!
Big Hugs xoxoxo

Poor little Carmen..Already chased by the moster. Good thing Super Brutus was there to help.
If the water hose comes out in our back yard all I see is a black blur of my sister. That boston butt can move let me tell you! She acts like it is acid rain or something.
Mason is so tall, maybe he could be your personal servant to shield you from horrendous sprinkles? Tell him to bring the palm frond while he is at it :)

Oh, no my dear dear friend. I was only teasing so you'd recognize me. I think that you are the best brother in the whole dog world and for that, I appreciate you even more than I did before Carmen's arrival.
