Labor Day Recap

Hey everybody.  Brutus doing the posting today, as mom is muttering something about being too beat from work.  Seriously?  The silly humans just had this "Labor Day"holiday (I personally didn't see any labor going on), and she's already complaining about being tired from work?  What is it that she does to teeth all day that they wear her out so much?  Chase them around or something???  Anyways, I digress....

What I have to tell you about today is our long weekend up at the Lake.  Dad's humans have a place up there, and every year they do a really big clam bake on Labor Day.  So on Saturday we all piled into Big Earl and made the short trip (about and hour and a half) up to Sandusky, OH.  This is how we roll:

Apparently Carmen decided she needed to improve her view, and before mom could do anything about it she managed to crawl up onto Big Earl's gigundous dashboard.  Hey look, we have a real-life bobblehead!!

You gotta watch these girls, I tell ya.  Always trying to take over.  Look, she was over there trying to tell dad where to go!

Um, dad...  Wasn't that our exit??

As if backseat drivers aren't bad enough - we've got a front windshield driver!  All Carmen was trying to do was get dad to stop at that McDonalds (look close in the picture, you can see the sign), silly girl doesn't get that Big Earl can't fit through the drive-through!

Anyways, Big Earl got us up to the Lake without a hitch, and we just couldn't wait to get out and explore!

For once, the weather was perfect, sunny but cool.  That meant we got to get dragged all over the neighborhood go for lots of nice walkies.  I heard mom say something about tiring out the Frenchies so that they were bearable, whatever...  We were happy to investigate all the new sights and smells, not to mention showing off our matching patriotic collars

Are ya coming mom??

We even indulged mom, posing by the water.  Supposedly this is one of the "Great" lakes, mom called it "Erie".  I think "fishy" would be a better name for it, since that's how it smells.  What's so "great" about it anyways???

Sorry, we're not impressed.  Let's get out of here before we get eaten by a swamp monster or something!

Back at the house, the clam bake preparations were well underway.  Mom wanted to take a picture of the sign, and of course I was happy to pose with it.

I can't say much about the clams themselves, since mom wouldn't let us anywhere near them.  We got stuck in Big Earl while all the humans ate.  Something about us being too likely to get in trouble. What the heck???

Just look at all those crumbs going to waste out there!

After dinner we got let out of our prison were able to go out and mingle with the guests.  There were lots of little humans, which Carmen seemed to be really perplexed by.

Wow, he walks on all fours like me!  Hey, wait up buddy!

Being more experienced with the smallish humans myself, I know they are suckers for a the sad puppy routine.  Put on my best act for this nice girl, how did she manage to resist my charms?!?

Come on!  Just one lick!  Puhleeeease???

I have to say, it was really good to have Big Earl along (see him in the background of that last photo? We parked him right in the driveway).  It's great to be social, but with tons of little kids flying around on scooters and all, a Frenchie just needs a place to get away when things get too dicey!  Carmen & I retreated into the coach to play our way - a good game of Frenchie bitey-face!

So it was nice to have a chance of scenery and for us all to have the weekend "off".  Maybe the humans call it Labor Day weekend because everybody felt so tired when it was over, like we'd worked or something.  I don't know about everyone else, but this pack is gonna need a few days to recover from all the excitement!

Mom says we better rest up, that Carmen & I are going to need our energy for something really important soon.  Wonder what she's gone and gotten us into now??  Guess you'll find out when we do!

Well, I feel a nap coming on.   Later taters!!

What a great weekend adventure! I've been through Sandusky on the interstate (in something much much smaller than Big Earl!) and I live near another of those Great Lakes -- see, we have something in common, guys! Thanks for sharing your weekend adventures!

Sounds like a great and fun weekend. I think the worst part for you was being stuck in big earl and seeing all those crumbs going to waste. That would have drove me CRAZY!! BOL

What a fantastic adventure. We love the pictures. So Brutus, Carmen seems to be taking over the copilot position. Be careful of those gals. I know from experience. Those little kids are a great snack source. You keep showing Carmen the ropes she'll catch on. Welcome home

Brutus it looks like you had such fun at the clam bake. We are spending some time at Happy Tails Bed & Biscuit in Idaho while the folks are in Boston. Kate, the owner is very good to us and plays with us and walks us 4X a day AND we get to play in a play yard too. Lots of fun. Can't wait to see what your mommy is up to!!
